A familiar partnership gets a fresh coat of paint
AC Immune just amended its 2018 collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly, keeping the two companies teamed up on a new class of neurology therapies built around Morphomer Tau. Translation: the partnership isn’t over, it’s getting a reboot with more money and a cleaner runway.
Why investors perked up
The amendment includes two things biotech investors love more than a perfectly timed clinical headline:
- a CHF 10 million upfront payment
- a milestone payment when Phase 1 dosing starts
That’s not just pocket change. It gives AC Immune a bit more breathing room to keep pushing its Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative disease work without constantly living on the edge of the cash treadmill.
The pipeline plot thickens
The company says it plans to kick off IND-enabling studies in H1 2026, which is basically biotech for “we’re still in the homework phase, but the test is coming.” CEO Andrea Pfeifer framed the update as an important step forward for the Morphomer platform, which has preclinical data suggesting it can inhibit Tau protein aggregation.
Big picture
AC Immune’s stock popped roughly 15% on the news, which makes sense: in biotech, a strengthened pharma partnership can be worth its weight in gold-plated lab coats. The science still has to do the heavy lifting, but for now investors got a little more confidence, a little more cash, and a lot less ambiguity.
