Copart didn’t get hit with some dramatic sell-off here — but one of its bigger owners did shave the stake. Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group sold 47,255 shares, trimming its Copart position by 2.1% and leaving it with 2,244,156 shares worth roughly $87.9 million at quarter-end.
Why you should care
A stake trim isn’t the same thing as a red flag, but it does give you a peek behind the curtain. When a large institutional holder nudges lower, traders immediately start asking the awkward question: is this just portfolio housekeeping, or is somebody getting less excited about the story?
Copart’s still got plenty of believers
The filing lands alongside some other Copart drama, including a quarterly miss that had the company coming in at $0.36 EPS versus $0.39 expected, with revenue of $1.12 billion. That’s not exactly a victory lap, and it helps explain why analysts are sounding more like they’re hedging at a poker table than pounding the table — the average rating sits around Hold.
Big picture: one holder trimming 2.1% won’t make or break Copart, but in a stock where sentiment is already a little wobbly, even small portfolio moves can add to the “who’s still buying this?” conversation.
