The money moves faster now
SoFi says Galileo can now send and receive payments through FedNow, the Federal Reserve’s instant payments network. Translation: money doesn’t have to sit around waiting for the banking version of a Friday afternoon reply email.
Why this matters
For SoFi, this isn’t just a shiny tech announcement. It’s another brick in the wall for Galileo, the company’s fintech infrastructure business, which sells payment and banking tools to other firms. If Galileo can help clients move money faster, that can make the platform more attractive — and harder to rip out once it’s plugged in.
The investor angle
This kind of update won’t usually send a stock into orbit on its own, but it does tell you where SoFi wants the story to go:
- more infrastructure, less just-consumer-app vibes
- more recurring usefulness, less one-off product chatter
- more ways to keep customers and partners inside the SoFi ecosystem
Big picture
FedNow support is basically SoFi saying, “We want to be the plumbing, not just the faucet.” And in fintech, plumbing can be surprisingly valuable.
