Same seat, slightly better view
Barclays analyst Matt Miksic gave Johnson & Johnson a little more headroom on Tuesday, raising the price target to $255 from $234 while keeping an Equal-Weight rating in place. That’s basically Wall Street’s version of saying, “You can stay at the party, but don’t expect the DJ to dedicate a song to you.”
What that means for you
An Equal-Weight call usually says the stock is fine, but not obviously a must-own compared with the rest of the market. The higher target does suggest Barclays sees more value in J&J than it did before — just not enough to turn bullish-bullish.
For investors, the bigger picture is that J&J is still getting credit for its defensive, cash-generating profile. Healthcare names like this can look boring until the market gets shaky, and then suddenly “boring” starts to look like a superpower.
The backdrop
The note lands as J&J continues to trade in the middle of a pretty crowded conversation about healthcare regulation, drug pipelines, and valuation. The article also points to a big chunk of insider selling over the last three months, which won’t exactly have momentum traders popping champagne.
Big picture: Barclays nudged the target higher, but this is still a “show me” stock rather than a full-throated buy.
