A very upbeat Wednesday
Stocks spent Wednesday doing what stocks love most: ignoring the doom scroll and sprinting higher. The S&P 500 climbed above 7,000 for the first time, the Nasdaq notched fresh all-time highs, and traders got a fresh excuse to hit the buy button.
The Iran headline gave risk assets a boost
President Donald Trump told FOX Business that the Iran war was "very close to over," with Tehran reportedly chasing a peace deal. Whether that turns into actual de-escalation or just another headline-shaped mood swing, investors clearly heard: fewer bombs, more buying.
Banks showed up early to earnings season
The first-quarter earnings tape also helped the mood. Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan all posted stronger-than-expected results, which is about as close as Wall Street gets to a group pep rally.
ETFs rode the wave
The rally spilled into big ETF names too:
- QQQ climbed as its mega-cap tech engine — think Nvidia and Apple — kept humming.
- SPY rose with the broader market, powered by a mix of financials, consumer names, and yes, some serious relief buying.
- QTUM got a boost from quantum names like IonQ, Rigetti, D-Wave, and Quantum Computing, which all had a very good day.
Big picture: when geopolitics cool off and earnings start beating the drum, investors tend to rotate from panic mode to FOMO mode fast. Today was a reminder that markets can go from headless chicken to victory lap in about 12 hours.
