A director takes chips off the table
Rambus got a familiar kind of headline: an insider sale with a seven-figure price tag. Director Meera Rao sold 8,538 shares on April 14 at an average price of $118.08, pulling in $1,008,167.04 and cutting her stake by about 27%.
Why investors care
Insider selling is one of those signals that doesn’t come with a neat decoder ring. Sometimes it’s just portfolio housekeeping, taxes, or a planned sale. But when a director cashes out $1 million in one shot, investors tend to squint a little harder at the stock chart.
The stock is already running hot
This isn’t a sleepy little cap-table update either. Rambus was trading around $120.02, way above its 50-day moving average of $97.06 and 200-day average of $99.27. That means the market has already been giving the name a serious glow-up, so any insider selling can feel like a tiny reality check.
Big picture
Rambus also just posted EPS of $0.68 on revenue of $190.24 million, both roughly in line or a touch ahead of expectations. So the company’s fundamentals haven’t suddenly fallen off a cliff — but when insiders start trimming after a big run, you usually want to know whether they’re seeing a ceiling you aren’t.
