Another one bites the blockchain
Ethereum Foundation core member Josh Stark says he’s stepping down at the end of the month after five years. He’s been involved in a bunch of headline-grabbing Ethereum milestones — from The Merge to Dencun — so this isn’t some random mid-level shuffle.
Why this matters
If you own ETH, you’re not just betting on code. You’re also betting on the people helping shape the ecosystem’s direction. And right now, the Ethereum Foundation is looking a little like a startup during an identity crisis: leadership changes, strategic resets, and a renewed focus on scaling the mainnet and keeping the cypherpunk vibes alive.
The leadership carousel continues
Stark’s exit comes after a rough run of departures and role changes at the foundation. Tomasz K. Stańczak stepped down as co-executive director at the end of February, and Trent Van Epps also announced he’s leaving to focus on Protocol Guild.
- Stark says he’s taking time off to rest and be with family and friends.
- He helped work on upgrades like The Merge, Dencun, Fusaka, and Pectra.
- The foundation has been reworking its strategy around scaling and core Ethereum values.
Big picture: Ethereum’s tech story is still alive and kicking, but the human layer around it is getting a bit wobbly — and markets tend to notice when the people steering the ship keep changing seats.
