Japan just gave SHIB a bigger stage
Shiba Inu popped about 5% after Rakuten Wallet added SHIB for trading against the Japanese yen starting April 15. That alone is enough to get meme-coin traders refreshing their apps like it’s concert ticket day.
Not just another checkbox listing
The more interesting part: users can now spend SHIB through Rakuten Pay, which opens the door to payments across roughly 5 million merchants in Japan. That’s the kind of “wait, people can actually use this?” detail crypto fans have been chasing for years.
But don’t get too comfortable
There’s still a very mixed backdrop here:
- More than 1 trillion SHIB reportedly moved off exchanges on April 15, which can hint at accumulation.
- At the same time, the token broke below an important upward trendline a day earlier.
- And yes, celebrity-holder drama is back in the mix, with Steve Aoki reportedly trimming some SHIB exposure.
Big picture
So the headline is bullish, but the tape is still moody. SHIB is getting more utility and more attention, which is great — but in crypto, a shiny new listing doesn’t magically erase a weak chart. It just gives the bulls a louder microphone.
