Walmart’s newest aisle: healthcare
Walmart is widening its weight-management push, adding access to GLP-1 medications and digital health platforms across nearly 4,600 pharmacies. In plain English: the retailer wants to be the place you grab your groceries, prescriptions, and now maybe your next wellness plan too.
Why investors should care
The company said customers can access GLP-1 drugs, including the newly available oral option Foundayo (orforglipron), through insurance or cash-pay pricing. That’s a pretty interesting mix of pharmacy, digital health, and convenience—basically Walmart trying to turn a common errand into a recurring health stop.
Same-day delivery, because waiting is so last decade
Walmart is also leaning into same-day delivery, with some orders arriving in as fast as one hour and free delivery for Walmart+ members. That matters because the more services Walmart can bundle into one ecosystem, the harder it gets for customers to shop elsewhere.
Big picture
This isn’t just a “new product” story. It’s Walmart inching deeper into healthcare-adjacent territory, which could mean more traffic, more pharmacy revenue, and a stronger moat. In other words: the supercenter is trying to become the super-app.
