Blink keeps the power on
Blink Charging is turning Earth Day into a little charging-party in Darien, Illinois. The company says drivers at Brookhaven Market’s Darien location will get two hours of fast charging at half price on April 22, courtesy of a coalition that includes Brookhaven Market, Heartland Charging Services, the City of Darien and the Electrification Coalition.
Cute promo, but also a business model check
On the surface, this looks like the kind of local feel-good event that makes everyone say, “Aww, nice.” But for Blink, the bigger story is that its business is still very much about building traffic, awareness and sticky relationships around charging locations. More cars plugged in means more chances to turn casual EV drivers into repeat users.
Why investors should care
This isn’t the kind of announcement that changes a quarterly model by itself. Still, it does show Blink continuing to court partners and municipalities to keep its network visible in a crowded EV charging market. If EV adoption keeps climbing, these little usage-driving promos can matter more than they look — kind of like free samples at Costco, but with kilowatts.
Big picture: Blink’s still in the “fill the funnel” phase, and events like this are all about getting more drivers to actually use the infrastructure it’s spent years rolling out.
