A card refresh, but make it strategic
AT&T and Citi are back with a makeover for the AT&T Points Plus® Card, and no, this isn’t just a new coat of paint. The updated card now offers monthly discounts on AT&T wireless and internet bills, 2x ThankYou Points on AT&T products and services, and the gloriously unglamorous but actually useful perk of no foreign transaction fees.
Why investors should even blink
This is one of those moves that sounds like a customer perk announcement — and it is — but it also works like digital duct tape for the AT&T relationship. If you’re getting bill credits and rewards for spending inside the AT&T universe, you’re a little less likely to wander off to a rival carrier because the grass is always greener.
The sticky part
The card also keeps earning ThankYou Points on everyday stuff like gas and groceries, plus up to $240 in statement credits annually. That’s a decent carrot for customers who already pay AT&T every month and want some payback for the privilege. In telecom, loyalty matters because switching is annoying, and companies know people will tolerate a lot if the discounts feel automatic.
Big picture
This isn’t a blockbuster catalyst, but it does show AT&T leaning harder into retention and bundled value. In a business where churn is the enemy and every little incentive counts, even a card refresh can be part of the moat-building playbook.
