A boardroom upgrade
Corvus Pharmaceuticals said Andrew C. Chan, M.D., Ph.D. has joined its Board of Directors, and this isn’t exactly a random seat-fill. Chan comes off a 25-year run at Genentech, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, Research Biology.
Why investors should care
When a clinical-stage biotech adds someone with serious drug-development credibility, it’s usually sending a message: we want more heavyweight judgment in the room. That can matter a lot when your business lives and dies by pipeline execution, scientific strategy, and eventually, the FDA gauntlet.
The Genentech factor
Corvus highlighted Chan’s work leading biological research across oncology, neurology, and immunology, with contributions to several FDA-approved medicines. Translation: this is the kind of résumé that can help a smaller biotech look a little less like a promising science project and a little more like a company that knows how to navigate big-league R&D.
Big picture: board appointments don’t move markets every day, but in biotech, adding a seasoned operator can be one more clue that management is gearing up for the long game.
