A new pharmacy power couple
Humana’s CenterWell Pharmacy is deepening its relationship with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, and yes, the mission is exactly what it sounds like: make prescription drugs less annoying, less opaque, and hopefully less expensive.
The two companies say they’re teaming up to develop new end-to-end employer prescription solutions. Cost Plus Drugs also picked CenterWell Pharmacy as a pharmacy partner, which is a fancy way of saying the checkout lane just got a new roommate.
Why investors should care
This isn’t some random corporate handshake for the LinkedIn highlight reel. Pharmacy benefits are a big battleground, and Humana has been trying to make its healthcare services stack more useful to employers and members alike.
If this partnership works, it could mean:
- a stickier pharmacy business
- a more competitive employer offering
- another way for Humana to differentiate beyond the usual insurance grind
The bigger picture
Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus brand has built its reputation by poking at the absurdity of drug pricing, while CenterWell brings the delivery and specialty-pharmacy muscle. Put those together and you get a classic “maybe we can fix this broken system” move — or at least a more interesting one than the usual press-release buddy comedy.
Big picture: partnerships like this won’t move Humana’s world overnight, but they do show the company is still trying to play offense in pharmacy, not just defend its insurance turf.
