Big Army Energy
AeroVironment just got a fresh stamp of approval from Uncle Sam. The U.S. Army awarded AV a prototype agreement for its Low-Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance, or LASSO, program, with the Switchblade 400 front and center.
That’s not just a fancy acronym soup. It means the Army wants AV’s medium-range, man-portable, anti-armor loitering munition in the mix as it ramps up rapid development, delivery, and testing.
Why investors should care
Defense contracts can be the gift that keeps on giving. Even a prototype award can matter because it:
- validates the product with a major customer
- can lead to follow-on testing, procurement, and longer-term revenue
- strengthens AeroVironment’s pitch as a go-to name in tactical drones and loitering munitions
The bigger picture
Switchblade has already become one of AV’s calling cards, and this award suggests the Army still wants to keep it in the conversation. If that turns into broader adoption, AeroVironment could get more than bragging rights — it could get a steadier pipeline of defense spending. Big picture: in defense, today’s prototype can be tomorrow’s contract stack.
