Another chapter in Apple’s chip soap opera
Apple apparently has not stopped window shopping for chip partners, and this time the rumor swirl includes Intel and SK hynix. That’s enough to light up Wall Street, where “Apple talks” can turn into a mini-stock rally faster than you can say “supply chain diversification.”
Why Intel keeps showing up in the group chat
For Intel, this is the kind of headline that feeds the foundry comeback narrative. The company has spent a lot of time and money trying to convince the market it can be more than a PC-chip legend from the dial-up era. If Apple’s seriously exploring U.S.-based manufacturing options, Intel’s fabs suddenly look a lot more interesting.
Why investors should care
Apple doesn’t need to make a final deal today for this to matter. Even the possibility of a bigger foundry relationship hints at a few things:
- Apple is still looking for more control over its supply chain
- Intel could gain a marquee customer to validate its foundry ambitions
- SK hynix’s name in the mix keeps the memory-chip angle alive too
Big picture: this is less “done deal” and more “very expensive first date.” But in market land, first dates can still move billions.
