Another layer for the Snowflake stack
Bedrock Data is widening its free tier for Snowflake, and this time the target is Snowflake Cortex. That means customers get Cortex agent discovery, agent cards that show which data each agent can touch, and more data classification by business domain — basically a bouncer, a GPS, and a filing cabinet for AI access rights.
Why investors should care
This isn’t flashy in the “we just launched a robot on a skateboard” sense. But it is the kind of plumbing enterprises pay attention to when they’re trying to use AI without accidentally handing the keys to the entire data warehouse. More governance support can make Cortex easier to adopt, especially for risk-averse buyers who live in fear of compliance headaches and very expensive audits.
Free is still a strategy
The headline detail here is that the expansion comes at no cost. In software-land, that usually means the vendor is betting free tools pull more customers deeper into the ecosystem. For Snowflake, that could help Cortex look less like a shiny add-on and more like a must-have part of the platform.
Big picture
Snowflake keeps stacking partnerships around AI, security, and governance — a pretty classic enterprise-software playbook. The more sticky and regulated the workflow gets, the harder it is for customers to rip and replace later.
