Marriott’s trying to make loyalty feel less like homework
Marriott Bonvoy and Outside Interactive just launched new benefits for members who connect their accounts and stay at participating Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors properties. Translation: Marriott wants your hotel stay to come with a little more “weekend escape” energy and a little less “I slept near an elevator and called it a getaway.”
Why this matters
The program spans 350+ hotels and other accommodations across the U.S. and Canada, including spots like Postcard Cabins and Trailborn Hotels. That’s not exactly a tiny pilot tossed into the wilderness. It’s a broad push to make Bonvoy feel more useful for travelers who want more than the usual business-trip buffet and toothpaste miniatures.
The investor angle
This kind of partnership is about loyalty, not headlines. Marriott keeps building a bigger moat around its ecosystem by giving members more reasons to book within the brand family. If the perks are compelling, you get more repeat stays, more app engagement, and hopefully fewer chances for travelers to wander off to a competitor because it had a slightly cooler fire pit.
Big picture: hotel chains are increasingly selling a lifestyle, not just a bed. Marriott’s betting that if it can wrap rewards around adventure travel, you’ll keep tapping “book now” instead of shopping around.
