A bigger charging network, same old EV race
ChargePoint said it’s partnering with OBE Power to deploy EV charging solutions at multifamily residences across North America. The headline number: about 2,500 charging ports, with rollout starting in 2026.
Why this matters
If you own an apartment building, you don’t want one lonely charger in the basement and a line of annoyed residents behind it. That’s the business ChargePoint and OBE Power are trying to solve. For ChargePoint, the deal could mean more equipment sales now and potentially more usage-driven revenue later.
The investor angle
A partnership like this doesn’t magically fix the EV charging market, which has been a bit of a circus lately. But it does show ChargePoint is still landing projects where EV adoption is actually lived-in and practical — places like apartment complexes, where charging access can be a real selling point.
- More ports = more installed infrastructure
- Multifamily housing is a sticky, high-need use case
- Starting in 2026 gives the company a runway, not instant gratification
Big picture
This is less “moonshot” and more “steady plumbing.” Still, in a sector where execution matters more than hype, getting a foothold in multifamily charging could help ChargePoint keep its name in the game.
