New face, same utility grind
Georgia Power said Anthony Oni has joined the company as vice president of Corporate Affairs, which means he’ll be running the communications playbook — media relations, social and digital media, branding, advertising, employee comms, the whole megaphone.
Why investors should care
This isn’t the kind of hire that sends a stock into orbit, but it does matter. Utilities are basically giant trust machines: they need regulators, customers, and local communities to believe the lights will stay on and the bills won’t turn into a horror movie.
A corporate affairs chief is the person helping shape that story. In a business like Southern Company’s, that can matter when you’re dealing with rate cases, public scrutiny, and the occasional political side-eye.
The bigger picture
It’s also worth noting this comes just days after Southern Company’s Georgia Power arm got a rate cut approved. So the company is juggling the very glamorous combo platter of regulatory wins and public messaging.
Big picture: this is a personnel move, not a thesis-changing event — but in utility land, the messenger is often part of the business model.
