Bubble? Son says: please, this is the opening act
Masayoshi Son is not buying the whole “AI bubble” panic. In a CNBC chat, the SoftBank boss called the AI boom “50x bigger” than the dot-com era and basically said we’re still in the pregame warm-up. His big pitch: physical AI — think humanoid and industrial robots — is the next trillion-dollar playground.
The real headline: a giant IPO is taking shape
The more investor-relevant bit is what SoftBank is reportedly doing behind the scenes. The company has been planning a roughly $100 billion IPO for a new AI-robotics venture called Roze AI, and Reuters says it tapped Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Mizuho, and Morgan Stanley to help grease the skids.
That matters because when SoftBank starts hiring Wall Street’s A-team, it’s usually not for decoration. It’s a sign the company wants to turn its AI-and-robots thesis into something the market can actually price, trade, and obsess over. And yes, that can be a very different movie than a CEO giving a bullish interview.
Why this could move the stock
SoftBank’s AI story has started to look less like a side quest and more like the main character. The company already bought ABB’s robotics division for $5.4 billion last October, and Son’s comments suggest he sees that deal as a down payment on something much bigger.
If the Roze AI IPO gets real, investors get a clean look at SoftBank’s next big bet — and a fresh way to handicap whether the company is building the future or just collecting expensive toys. Big picture: in SoftBank land, the robots aren’t coming. They’re already getting bank calls.
