Lilly’s not just about weight loss anymore
Eli Lilly is heading into the June 11 to June 14 European Hematology Association meeting in Stockholm with a full tray of oncology appetizers — and one main course that could matter a lot more than the buffet vibes suggest.
The company said it will spotlight positive Phase 3 results from BRUIN CLL-322, where Jaypirca (pirtobrutinib) is being studied in a time-limited combo regimen for patients with previously treated CLL/SLL. Translation: Lilly wants to show investors that its cancer pipeline isn’t just a side quest.
Why this matters for your portfolio
There are a few moving pieces here:
- Pirtobrutinib gets another chance to flex in blood cancer, which could support its long-term commercial story.
- Ajax Therapeutics will present early data on its type II JAK2 inhibitor for myelofibrosis, and Kelonia Therapeutics will share additional data on its in vivo CAR-T program in multiple myeloma — both companies Lilly has agreed to acquire.
- In other words, Lilly is using the conference to show off not just what it already owns, but also what it’s about to own.
The bigger picture
For a stock that’s been living in the shadow of its obesity-drug blockbuster, this is Lilly reminding the market that it wants to be more than a one-hit wonder. If the hematology data land well, it could help investors feel better about the company’s breadth — and a broader pipeline usually means fewer “what happens after the GLP-1 wave?” questions.
Big picture: Lilly is trying to turn its oncology lineup into a second act, not just a cameo.
