New fight card, new streaming flex
Paramount Skydance is widening its partnership with UFC, and this one comes with a pretty juicy prize: Paramount+ will be the exclusive home of UFC Numbered Event main cards in Canada for six years starting in 2027.
If you’ve ever watched live sports platforms behave like it’s Black Friday every time a big rights deal drops, you know the vibe. These UFC main cards are the premium stuff — the championship-bout, biggest-star, don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-it kind of content.
Why investors should care
This is less about punching and more about retention. Live sports can:
- keep subscribers from churning during the slow streaming months
- give Paramount+ a clearer premium identity
- help Paramount sell ads around must-watch live events
That said, the payoff doesn’t start until 2027, so this is more “future ammo” than instant earnings candy. Still, in streaming-land, locking in exclusive sports inventory is a lot like reserving beachfront property before everyone else shows up with folding chairs.
The bigger picture
Paramount keeps trying to prove it can be more than just a content warehouse with a logo. Deals like this say: we want the sticky stuff, the live stuff, the stuff people actually set reminders for.
Big picture: if Paramount can keep stacking premium sports rights, Paramount+ gets a better shot at becoming less of a maybe-subscribe and more of a must-have.
