The AI buffet line is still huge
TSMC’s warning is a reminder that the AI trade has a very unsexy problem: there aren’t enough chips to go around. Demand is running so hot that the company says supply won’t fully catch up for years, which is a fancy way of saying the line outside the buffet is still wrapping around the block.
Why Nvidia holders should pay attention
Nvidia lives at the center of this whole AI machine, so a supply bottleneck can cut two ways. On the one hand, tight supply can keep chip pricing juicy and demand feeling absurdly strong. On the other hand, it also means some of that growth can stay stuck in the pipeline instead of turning into faster shipments and bigger revenue right away.
The market’s favorite problem
For investors, this is one of those classic “good problem, bad problem” situations:
- good: AI demand looks durable, not a one-quarter fad
- bad: the industry still can’t scale fast enough to satisfy it
- messy: that means winners may be the companies that control the bottlenecks, not just the ones with the loudest AI pitch
Big picture: if TSMC is waving the caution flag, the AI boom isn’t slowing down — it’s just getting more bottlenecked, more expensive, and a lot less neat than the hype videos make it look.
