Another day, another PG&E courtroom cameo
Baron & Budd and Diab Chambers filed a lawsuit on behalf of Colusa County and the Colusa County Resource Conservation District, aiming to recover public infrastructure and natural resource damages from the June 17, 2024 Sites Fire. The fire scorched more than 19,195 acres, and now the legal bill is getting its own headline.
Why investors care
For PG&E, lawsuits tied to wildfire damage are less of a one-off and more of a recurring subscription nobody asked for. Every new case can add pressure around:
- potential settlement costs
- legal expenses
- regulatory scrutiny
- the long tail of wildfire liability risk
The bigger picture
Utilities usually sell the dream of boring, steady cash flows. PG&E, unfortunately, keeps getting dragged back into the unsteady part of that equation. Even if this single suit doesn’t move the needle by itself, it reinforces the same investor question: how much wildfire baggage is still left in the backpack?
