The Nasdaq-100 lottery ticket
CoreWeave just got the kind of call every newly public stock dreams about: a spot in the Nasdaq-100. Nasdaq said the AI cloud infrastructure company will be added in its June 2026 rebalance, effective before the market opens on June 22.
That matters because index inclusion can turn into a mini demand machine. Once the fund rebalancing crowd shows up, passive money has to buy the stock whether it’s in the mood or not — like a forced shopping spree, but with spreadsheets.
Not just a prettier ticker tape
The stock jumped in premarket trading, and CoreWeave wasn’t the only one getting a caffeine shot. Astera Labs, Nebius, Rocket Lab, and Teradyne also rose after landing in the index, while Charter, Cognizant, Insmed, Verisk, and Zscaler are on their way out.
For CoreWeave, the inclusion is a visibility win. It also helps shove the company a little deeper into the conversation with institutions that love benchmark names and hate missing the bus.
The debt part: because AI isn’t cheap
Separate from the index news, CoreWeave priced $1.25 billion of 9.625% senior notes and 2 billion euros of 8.500% senior notes due in 2032. The company says it’ll use the money for general corporate purposes, including paying down debt and covering offering costs.
Translation: the AI arms race is still very much a capital-eating beast. If the Nasdaq-100 inclusion is the shiny new badge, the bond deal is the reminder that the bill for building the infrastructure is very real.
Big picture
For investors, this is the classic two-sided CoreWeave story: momentum and legitimacy on one side, heavy financing needs on the other. If the index buying shows up, the near-term trade could stay hot — but the balance sheet still gets a vote.
