Salesforce is back in deal mode
Salesforce just signed a definitive agreement to acquire Fin, the customer agent company formerly known as Intercom, for roughly $3.6 billion. In other words: the giant software landlord is adding another tenant to its ever-growing AI apartment complex.
Why this matters
The pitch is pretty straightforward. Salesforce wants more AI-powered tools that help companies handle customer requests without making humans do all the boring tab-juggling. If Fin’s tech plugs in cleanly, Salesforce can bundle it into its broader CRM empire and sell the dream of faster support, lower costs, and happier customers.
The investor angle
For CRM investors, the question isn’t just “did they buy something shiny?” It’s whether this deal helps Salesforce defend its turf in a world where every software company is trying to slap AI on the box and call it transformation. A $3.6 billion price tag also says Salesforce thinks the customer-service AI market is still early enough to keep consolidating.
Big picture: this is Salesforce doing what Salesforce does best — buying pieces of the future and hoping they fit together before the market gets impatient.
