Trial wheels keep turning
Avalyn just said it completed target enrollment in its Phase 2b MIST study of AP01, an inhaled pirfenidone being tested in patients with progressive pulmonary fibrosis. That’s the kind of milestone that doesn’t make your heart race like a blockbuster readout, but it does matter: enrollment is where a lot of trials quietly trip over their own shoelaces.
Why investors should care
The company says topline 12-month clinical results are expected in the second half of 2027. In biotech, that’s basically the long game — not “call me after lunch,” more “see you after a couple of market cycles.” Still, hitting target enrollment is a cleaner signal than vague optimism, because it means the study is moving forward instead of living forever in the recruiting phase.
The boring part that matters
A few things to keep in mind:
- AP01 is an inhaled formulation, which is the whole pitch here — easier delivery, maybe better tolerability, and a more differentiated story than plain old pill-in-a-bottle science.
- Progressive pulmonary fibrosis is a nasty, chronic lung disease, so even incremental progress can be commercially meaningful if the data cooperate.
- The real stock-moving moment is still ahead. Enrollment news lowers execution risk a bit, but the payoff depends on whether those 2027 results show the drug actually works.
Big picture: this is not the fireworks moment — it’s the “we found the seats and everyone’s in the stadium” moment. Useful, yes. Life-changing for the stock only if the future data actually sing.
