Hollywood meets the wraparound screen
Sony Pictures is adding a little extra spectacle to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. CJ 4DPLEX says the film has been "Shot for SCREENX," meaning it’s designed to play on the company’s 270-degree panoramic theater format.
Why this matters
This isn’t some earth-shattering balance sheet move, but it is another way Sony tries to monetize its biggest franchises. If you own Sony, the logic is pretty simple: the more premium formats a blockbuster can support, the more ways there are to turn one movie into multiple revenue streams.
The business of making movies feel bigger
Premium cinema formats are basically the movie-world version of upgrading from economy to business class. Same destination, fancier seat, bigger price tag. For theater operators and format companies, a title like Spider-Man is exactly the kind of tentpole that can pull people off the couch and into a seat with a better view.
Big picture: Sony doesn’t just sell tickets with Spider-Man — it keeps finding new ways to package the same superpower for the box office machine.
