Rally? Meet reality
Indian shares took a breather on Friday after a solid five-day run, and the mood flipped fast. The Sensex and Nifty both slipped as investors suddenly remembered that markets don’t move in a straight line — annoying, yes, but very on brand.
Two things spooked traders
The first headache was geopolitics: doubts crept in around U.S.-Iran talks meant to calm the Middle East conflict, and that’s the kind of backdrop that makes investors reach for the “risk-off” button. The second was a very 2026 problem: Accenture trimmed its FY26 guidance, which sent a not-so-subtle message that AI disruption is no longer just a slide deck buzzword.
IT stocks got the worst of it
Indian tech shares got smacked because the market heard a familiar scary thought: if clients start rethinking spending, consulting and IT services growth can get wobbly. So even though this was a broad market move, the pain showed up most clearly in the sector that lives and dies by global enterprise budgets.
Big picture
This looks less like a full-blown trend reversal and more like a reality check. After five straight up days, investors got a reminder that macro jitters and AI anxiety can still punch the market in the nose — especially when the most cyclical parts of the tape are already priced for perfection.
