Dividend time
Freeport-McMoRan just told shareholders it’s cutting another check: $0.15 per share in cash, made up of a $0.075 base dividend plus a $0.075 variable dividend. If you own FCX, mark your calendar for the record date on July 15, 2026 and the payout date on August 3, 2026.
Why investors should care
This isn’t just pocket change. The variable dividend is Freeport’s way of saying, “Hey, cash flow’s been good enough to share the wealth.” That matters a lot for a miner, where commodity prices can make the business feel like a roller coaster with better branding.
The fine print, but make it human
The board said the payout depends on financial results, which is corporate-speak for: if the copper market sneezes, the dividend can catch a cold. Still, a combined $0.15 per share keeps Freeport in the club of stocks that send you money while you wait for the next macro upturn.
Big picture: Freeport is still leaning into its shareholder-return formula, and that usually gives income investors a little more confidence that management isn’t hoarding the cash for a rainy day that may or may not ever come.
