Uber Eats is shopping for a bigger role
Uber Technologies says it’s adding a fresh batch of retailers to the Uber Eats marketplace, widening the menu beyond dinner and dessert into beauty, office supplies, sporting goods, pet stuff, and more. In other words: the app that used to rescue your Friday night takeout can now also rescue your last-minute errand run.
The new shelf space
The additions include Kiehl's, FedEx Office, Blick Art Materials, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Choice Pet, all now available through the Uber Eats, Uber, and Postmates apps. That’s a pretty clear attempt to make the platform feel less like a food-ordering app and more like a mini department store with a driver.
Why investors should care
This matters because Uber keeps nudging the business away from pure food delivery and toward a broader marketplace model. More categories can mean more order frequency, more time spent in the app, and potentially more reasons for users to keep Uber installed even when they’re not craving tacos.
Big picture
The vibe here is simple: Uber wants to be the app you use when you’re hungry, lazy, or suddenly realizing you need printer paper and dog treats. If this marketplace expansion sticks, it could help deepen engagement and create another layer of growth outside rides and meals.
