Another satellite win, but make it defense
MDA Space is back with fresh contract news, and this one has a little more geopolitics seasoning than your average orbit-and-antenna press release. Mitsubishi Electric tapped MDA for next-generation digital payload and other subsystems tied to a GEO satellite series supporting Japanese government operations.
Why investors should care
This is the kind of deal that makes a space company look less like a moonshot and more like a recurring-revenue machine with rockets attached. Defense communications programs tend to be the kind of long-cycle, technically demanding work that can deepen customer relationships and help smooth out the lumpy nature of satellite contracts.
The bigger signal
MDA also says the work spans multiple contracts and will be handled in the UK and Montréal, which is a nice reminder that this business is very global and very specialized. In plain English: if you can build the stuff governments and prime contractors need, you get invited back to the table.
Big picture: MDA keeps collecting proof that its space-tech toolbox has real commercial and defense demand, and the market usually likes that combo more than it likes vague hype about the final frontier.
