The AI bill is coming due
Microsoft shares closed down 3.45% after Stifel nudged its price target lower to $400 from $415 and left the rating at Hold. Not exactly a dramatic pivot, but in a market this twitchy, even a small haircut can feel like a neon warning sign.
What’s the worry?
Investors are staring at two things at once: Azure growth and the cost of feeding the AI beast. Microsoft keeps spending big on infrastructure, chips, and data centers, and that’s great when growth is humming. But if cloud margins start getting pinched, the story changes from “AI leader” to “AI tab, please.”
Why you should care
For Microsoft, the issue isn’t whether AI matters — obviously it does. The question is whether the company can keep turning that spend into enough revenue growth before Wall Street gets impatient. If Azure growth slows or margins wobble, the stock can get treated like a fabulous house with a scary mortgage.
Big picture: Microsoft still has the AI crown in plenty of investors’ minds, but today’s move is a reminder that even kings have to pay the power bill.
