A new trailhead for Affirm
Affirm is linking up with Backcountry, the outdoor gear retailer, to give customers a more flexible way to pay for skis, bikes, camping gear, and the rest of the stuff that quietly eats your wallet before a weekend trip even starts.
Why this matters
This is the kind of partnership Affirm loves: it plants the BNPL button right where shoppers are already ready to spend. If you’re buying a $900 bike helmet-and-bike-and-bike-rack situation, “pay over time” can feel a lot more appealing than one giant checkout punch.
The investor angle
For Affirm, the story isn’t just about one retailer. It’s about keeping its payment rails visible across more merchants and more categories, which is how BNPL companies try to turn a nice idea into a repeatable business.
Backcountry also gives Affirm a brand that fits the use case nicely. Outdoor gear isn’t impulse candy-bar spending; it’s higher-ticket, seasonal, and very much the kind of purchase where financing can sound less like a gimmick and more like a budgeting tool.
Big picture: partnerships like this won’t move the stock by themselves, but they do show Affirm is still widening its checkout footprint one retailer at a time.
