New face, bigger mandate
BILL says Jonathan Leaf is joining the company as Chief Revenue Officer on July 6th, and the title comes with a wider-than-usual playbook. He’ll oversee sales, marketing, embedded partnerships, and customer experience — basically the whole “get customers, keep customers, make them happier” machine.
Why this matters
That’s not just corporate calendar filler. When a company expands a revenue leader’s scope, it usually means management wants more coordination across the front end of the business. Translation: fewer silos, more growth discipline, and hopefully less of the classic “sales says one thing, marketing says another” chaos.
For BILL, which serves nearly half a million businesses, the hire suggests the company is still leaning hard into scaling its platform and sharpening how it sells into SMB finance workflows. That can be a good sign if execution is the issue — and a pressure point if the company needs a faster growth re-acceleration.
The investor lens
You’re not getting revenue numbers or guidance here, so this isn’t a fireworks-style catalyst. But leadership changes in the sales org can matter a lot for software names, especially when the company is trying to squeeze more out of its customer base.
Big picture: BILL is betting that a new CRO can help turn its platform story into a cleaner growth story.
