Another logo for the partner wall
Square says Sherwin-Williams has picked it as the payment solutions partner for the paint giant’s Digital Alliance Program. Translation: instead of just being the little white square on a tablet at a coffee shop, Square is still trying to become the checkout brain behind more businesses.
Why this matters
Sherwin-Williams isn’t exactly a tiny corner-store trial balloon. It’s the biggest paint and coatings company on the planet, and its PRO+ customer network includes professional painters and contractors who buy supplies with the kind of regularity that makes payment systems happy.
For Block, this is the classic “more distribution, more use cases” story:
- More touchpoints with business customers
- More credibility outside the small-business stereotype
- Another partner that can funnel users into Square’s ecosystem
The investor angle
This probably won’t move the stock like a blockbuster earnings beat, but it does matter if you’re watching Square’s long game. Partnerships like this are the breadcrumbs that show whether the company can keep expanding beyond the local cafe and into bigger, stickier commerce relationships.
Big picture: the payments wars are still won by whoever gets embedded deepest into a merchant’s daily routine. And Sherwin-Williams is a pretty decent place to start digging.
