The invisible royalty on AI
If AI is the gold rush, TSMC is the company selling the shovels, the picks, and probably the land the mine sits on. A Futurum strategist argued that nearly every major chip player — from Nvidia and AMD to Apple, Broadcom and Qualcomm — eventually runs through TSMC’s advanced manufacturing pipeline.
That’s the real story here: not just who designs the chip, but who can actually make it at scale without the whole thing falling apart like a bad group project.
Why investors keep circling TSMC
TSMC’s edge is the unglamorous stuff that matters most: wafer starts, high yields, advanced packaging, and enough manufacturing discipline to turn fancy blueprints into real-world silicon.
Boloor’s point is basically this:
- Nvidia can design the monster AI chips
- AMD can chase the same prize
- Apple can keep building custom silicon
- Broadcom and Qualcomm can pitch their own chips
But they all still need the same bottleneck to cooperate. And in a world where AI demand keeps chewing through capacity, that makes TSMC look less like a supplier and more like the toll collector at the only bridge in town.
The next big date
The market won’t have to wait long for fresh numbers. TSMC is set to report earnings on July 16, and expectations are pretty spicy: analysts see EPS at $3.77 versus $2.47 a year ago, with revenue expected to jump to $39.76 billion from $30.07 billion.
That’s the kind of setup that can keep a stock glued to the screen even when the broader market is doing its usual emotional swing dance. If TSMC beats and raises, the AI supply-chain thesis gets another boost. If it stumbles, suddenly everyone remembers that even the kingmakers need enough chips, yields and capacity to keep the machine humming.
Big picture
TSMC isn’t just participating in the AI boom. It’s the manufacturing layer underneath it, and that gives investors a very different way to play the theme. The company may not get the same glamor as the chip designers, but if the AI economy really is a factory, TSMC is the building everyone has to rent.
