New kit, same telecom obsession
Nokia is trying to make networks smarter, faster, and a lot more AI-flavored. The company says its new commercial AI-native RAN platform — built with Nvidia’s Aerial AI-RAN tech — is designed to help operators move toward AI-native networks instead of the usual patchwork upgrades.
Why this matters
If you’re a telecom operator, capacity is king. Nokia says the platform could deliver more than 100% improvement in spectral efficiency by 2028, which is the corporate version of saying, “same spectrum, way more juice.” Pilot deployments are expected by the end of this year, with commercial availability targeted for 2027.
More than just a demo
This isn’t Nokia just waving a shiny AI wand. The company also said:
- its anyRAN software will support three new accelerated-computing baseband platforms
- the broader portfolio stays fully O-RAN compliant
- operators can upgrade at their own pace instead of ripping and replacing everything like it’s a kitchen reno gone wrong
And yes, the Taiwan Mobile expansion adds another breadcrumb trail: Nokia is also widening its 5G partnership there with AI-powered network upgrades. That gives the story a bit more commercial texture, not just a lab-coat announcement.
