Another round in the EU ring
Google is back in court, telling the EU’s top judges to stand by a ruling that would wipe out a $1.7 billion antitrust fine. In other words: the company is trying to turn a giant regulatory headache into a big fat zero.
Why this matters
This isn’t just legal ping-pong for the sake of drama. Antitrust cases can ding margins, add uncertainty, and keep investors guessing about whether regulators are about to open a new tab and charge the company again.
For Alphabet holders, the key question is simple: does this end the fight, or just keep the legal bill running? If the court sides with Google, that’s one less overhang. If not, well, Europe remains very much in the “please take a number” mood.
Big picture
Regulatory battles rarely move like a blockbuster earnings beat, but they matter because they can linger for years and quietly shave confidence. And for mega-caps, confidence is half the valuation story.
