Not just vibes, apparently
Amazon is basically telling Wall Street: relax, this AI splurge isn’t happening on a napkin sketch. Andy Jassy said the company’s huge spending on AI infrastructure is supported by actual demand — especially for its Trainium chips — plus revenue that’s already been contracted.
Trainium is doing the heavy lifting
That matters because the chip business is no longer just a science project tucked inside AWS. Amazon says Trainium is already running at a $20 billion annual pace, which is the kind of number that makes a capex binge look a lot less like a sugar rush and a lot more like a business model.
Why investors should care
If Amazon can keep pointing to real demand, it has a better shot at convincing investors that all this spending is building a moat, not just burning cash in a very expensive race with Nvidia and the rest of the AI crowd.
The big picture: Amazon is trying to turn “we’re spending a fortune on AI” into “we’re building the next profit engine.” That’s a much better pitch when your stock is expected to do both grow and justify the bill.
