A grant, not a grand slam
Cirrus Logic says it received a research and development grant from Scottish Enterprise to help build out next-gen smart energy technology. In plain English: the chipmaker is getting paid to keep tinkering on the stuff that measures energy with more precision than your electricity bill probably wants.
Why this matters
The money is tied to a new metrology analogue front-end, or AFE, platform. That’s the kind of hardware that sits in the unglamorous but important part of the stack — doing the measurement work so energy systems can get smarter, more accurate, and hopefully more useful.
For investors, this is less about a giant revenue pop today and more about optionality. Cirrus Logic already lives in the mixed-signal semiconductor world; adding smart energy as a growth path could help diversify the story beyond its core audio business.
