Trailer drama, now with lawyers
Netflix has itself a fresh little side quest: prediction-market platform Kalshi reportedly sent the streamer a cease-and-desist letter on Friday, demanding it pull the trailer for its upcoming documentary, Instadocs: The Prediction Games.
Kalshi’s gripe? It says the trailer uses fabricated documents and misleading statements, and it wants the footage yanked. Netflix, for its part, says the reporting is real and the scene was filmed on July 17th at a Las Vegas watch party. So yes, we’ve got the classic “no, you lied” vs. “no, you lied” media fight.
Why investors should care
This isn’t about Netflix losing subscribers because of one documentary. But it does matter because:
- it adds another PR/legal squall to a company that’s already in the spotlight
- the film includes high-profile names like Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour and Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan
- Kalshi is already dealing with regulatory pressure, including a separate lawsuit over Minnesota and the CFTC
