The whole story is basically Bitcoin with a corporate wrapper
Strategy Inc. is heading into its Thursday Q2 earnings report, and this one has all the drama of a reality show reunion: awkward losses, big opinions, and a giant Bitcoin stash sitting in the middle of the room.
Analysts are bracing for a loss of $2.19 per share on revenue of about $121.88 million, which would still be up 6.4% from a year ago. But let’s be honest — nobody’s buying this stock for the revenue chart. They’re watching Bitcoin, because Strategy’s balance sheet has basically become a very expensive crypto mood ring.
Bitcoin did the company no favors
Strategy says it holds 843,775 BTC, worth more than $55 billion, but the second quarter was rough: Bitcoin fell more than 14%, leaving the company with more than $8 billion in paper losses. That’s the kind of number that makes even a hardline Bitcoin bull reach for a stress ball.
And there’s another wrinkle. The company has paused Bitcoin purchases for about a month, while selling 3,620 BTC to pad its cash reserve to $3.225 billion. So now investors are left wondering whether Michael Saylor is just taking a breather… or if the buying spree is about to come back with a vengeance.
What investors are really trading here
The stock itself has been a roller coaster wearing a suit. Strategy shares were up in pre-market trading, even after closing lower on Friday, and the market is still treating MSTR like a levered bet on Bitcoin with a corporate ticker taped on top.
A few things to watch:
- Whether the loss is worse than the already-bad estimates
- Any update on Bitcoin buying plans
- How management frames the cash reserve and BTC strategy going forward
- Whether the stock’s wild volatility gets even wilder after the print
Big picture: this isn’t just an earnings report — it’s a referendum on whether Strategy’s Bitcoin-heavy identity still looks genius, reckless, or a little bit of both.
