Rigetti is teaming up again — this time with HPE and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center — to build a new hybrid quantum-classical supercomputer. Translation: the company wants its quantum hardware to play nicely with old-school computing, which is still where a lot of the heavy lifting happens.
Why this matters
Quantum computing is basically the tech world’s “trust me, it’ll be huge” category. The promise is real, but the path from lab demo to actual usefulness is messy. A hybrid system is the practical middle ground: use quantum where it helps, and classical computing where quantum still needs a grown-up in the room.
For Rigetti, partnerships like this do two things:
