New bull, same messy tape
Cipher Mining caught a fresh dose of Wall Street optimism Monday when Chardan Capital kicked off coverage with a Buy rating and a $32 price target. That’s a pretty punchy vote of confidence for a stock that was still getting dragged lower anyway, because apparently the market sometimes treats good news like background noise.
Why Chardan is interested
The bull case isn’t just vibes and espresso-fueled optimism. Chardan’s thesis leans on a few things that matter to investors:
- Cipher’s direct relationship with Amazon Web Services, which the analyst sees as a real differentiator
- A roughly 4.2 gigawatt existing portfolio
- An additional 2.8 gigawatts in development pipeline, which could mean more upside if partners keep lining up
- ERCOT’s Batch Zero process, which could unlock unallocated power capacity
That’s a lot of potential fuel for a story stock with infrastructure ambitions. In other words: Cipher isn’t being pitched like a meme; it’s being pitched like a power-hungry pickaxe in a gold rush.
But the market said “not today”
Even with the bullish initiation, CIFR was down 8.29% to $21.23 at the time of publication. That’s the reminder nobody loves: stock-specific catalysts can get steamrolled when the broader market is in full risk-off mode.
The investor takeaway
The long-term setup still looks constructive, but near-term traders are clearly more focused on the selloff than the shiny new target. Big picture: if Cipher can turn that pipeline and AWS relationship into actual capacity growth, Monday’s dip may end up looking like a mood swing rather than a thesis breaker.
