More power, more GPUs, more ambition
AMD is reportedly securing up to 2.5 GW of AI data center capacity from Core Scientific, which is a pretty loud way of saying: the AI arms race is now partly a power-grid race.
Why investors should care
If you’re trying to build out AI infrastructure, chips are only half the story. You also need electricity, cooling, and enough physical space to actually plug everything in without turning the place into a very expensive toaster. Getting access to that much capacity suggests AMD is thinking bigger about where its AI hardware will live and how it can scale.
The bigger picture
For AMD, this is less about a single headline and more about showing it can play the full-stack AI game — not just selling chips, but helping make sure customers have somewhere to deploy them. Core Scientific, meanwhile, keeps winning a role in the AI infrastructure boom without having to pretend it's suddenly a chip designer.
Big picture: in AI, compute gets the glory, but power and data center capacity are the boring superstars making the whole show possible.
