Another lab win, another step closer to reality
Co-Diagnostics is back with a fresh update on its Ebola-testing push, and it’s the kind of news that makes diagnostics investors perk up like they just heard the test results are in. The company said its joint venture in India, CoSara Diagnostics, sent SARAGENE Bundibugyo Virus Test kits to a third-party lab for evaluation after a request from C-CAMP, which is supported by India’s Department of Biotechnology.
Why this matters
That’s one half of the story. The other half: Co-Diagnostics also says it completed proof of concept for what it calls the first blood-borne test for Ebola on its Co-Dx PCR Pro instrument. In plain English, that means the company is trying to move from “cool science project” to “hey, this could actually be useful in the real world.”
The investor angle
For a small diagnostics name like CODX, proof-of-concept milestones matter because they can:
- strengthen the case for future partnerships or licensing deals
- open the door to broader validation work
- help the company build a story beyond just being another micro-cap ticker with a dream and a microscope
This doesn’t mean money is raining down tomorrow. But it does suggest the Ebola program is still moving, and in biotech/diagnostics land, momentum is often half the battle.
Big picture: Co-Diagnostics is trying to turn niche assay development into a platform story. If the validation work keeps coming back clean, that’s how a small-cap can start looking a lot less like a science fair and a lot more like a business.
