The family app just got furrier
Verizon and Fi are pairing up to plug Fi’s Mini tracker straight into the redesigned Verizon Family app. Translation: your dog can now join the household safety dashboard, because apparently even pets need app integration now.
Why this matters
This isn’t a blockbuster revenue announcement, but it does tell you something about Verizon’s playbook. The company keeps trying to make its services feel less like a phone bill and more like a daily utility — something you open because it actually does something useful.
For Verizon, that’s the whole game:
- keep customers inside the Verizon ecosystem
- make the Family app more sticky
- attach more features to the network without needing a new handset cycle
Not a huge catalyst, but a very Verizon move
You’re not looking at a needle-mover on its own. But these little partnerships matter because telecom is a maturity contest, not a sprint. The winners are the ones who can keep customers from wandering off to a cheaper plan like they’re browsing streaming subscriptions.
Fi gets distribution. Verizon gets a more differentiated family product. And you get the faintly futuristic feeling that your Labrador now has better app support than most small businesses.
Big picture: this is less about pet tech and more about Verizon quietly trying to make itself harder to leave.
