AI storage: the next shiny object
Sandisk used its 2026 Investor Day to pitch a simple idea: AI isn’t just chewing up compute, it’s going to make data centers way hungrier for storage, too. Think token usage, KV cache, and all the digital plumbing that quietly eats up flash like a teenager at a snack table.
The new corporate glow-up
The company laid out a long-term model that calls for:
- mid-to-high-teens revenue growth from fiscal 2028 through fiscal 2030
- roughly 80% adjusted gross margins
- about 75% adjusted operating margins
- around 50% adjusted free cash flow margins
That’s a pretty aggressive flex for a storage company, and it’s exactly why the stock ripped more than 16%. Sandisk is basically trying to tell investors it deserves more than the usual “NAND is cyclical, shrug” discount.
Less chaos, more contracts
Another big piece of the pitch: longer-term customer agreements. Sandisk said it has signed deals with eight customers, covering about half of its expected bits in fiscal 2027 and roughly two-thirds in fiscal 2028. Translation: more predictable revenue, cash flow, and earnings — the holy trinity every investor loves when the market gets moody.
Big picture
Sandisk is trying to evolve from a cyclical flash maker into something closer to a long-duration AI infrastructure play. If the company can actually hit those margin targets, this could be more than a one-day pop — it could be the start of a serious re-rating.
