New deal, big number
Intuitive Machines just announced it received authorization to proceed from an undisclosed customer on a multi-satellite communications infrastructure program. The headline number is doing a lot of heavy lifting here: the opportunity is expected to be worth more than $600 million.
What they’re actually doing
This isn’t just a logo-on-a-slide partnership. Intuitive Machines says it will use its satellite communications expertise and IM 1300 platform to:
- design spacecraft
- manufacture them
- integrate the systems
- support the mission once it’s up and running
In other words, it’s trying to be the company that builds the plumbing for space communications, not just the one taking pretty lunar selfies.
Why investors should care
For LUNR, this is the kind of contract news that can help investors squint past the usual space-company chaos and think in terms of backlog, recurring work, and commercial credibility. A deal this size doesn’t guarantee smooth sailing, but it does suggest the company is still winning real business in a market where execution matters a lot more than hype.
Big picture: if Intuitive Machines can keep stacking programs like this, the story shifts from ‘cool space tech company’ to ‘actual infrastructure operator with revenue to match.’
